Week 102: Last week in the mission field? Weird.

Hey everyone!

I look back and wonder where the time went! The past two years have gone incredibly fast, but I am very grateful to Heavenly Father for allowing me the chance to serve in the Nevada Las Vegas West Mission. The people here are so great. I am going to miss it... In a lot of ways I feel torn up inside, especially with weeks like this one when so many great things happen!

My last week was great! We found another lady to teach that had previously been taught by some other missionaries in our zone. She had stopped meeting with the missionaries, but one night, we were walking around the park at like 8:50pm and ran into her. It was funny because as we were talking to her, the park security guard came up behind us to tell us to kick us out of the park for soliciting. We told him that we weren't soliciting, so he left, but then he came back to try to kick us out again when the lady said, "I'm a member, back off!" It was hilarious because 1) she isn't a member and 2) it took the security guard by total surprise. She wants to get baptized next month on her birthday!

I also went to our departing temple trip this past week! I got to ride up to the temple with President and Sister Ahlander! It was great spending time with them. They have been so good to me.

Remember: "Press forward with a steadfastness in Christ" and never stop!

Week 101: Put Your Shoulder to the Wheel

Hey everyone!

I hope everything is going well for y'all!

Things are going well for us! I'm so glad to be in an area with good companions and good members to finish up my
mission. I can honestly say I feel the Lord's support most of the time as I am approaching this new challenge. There
certainly are difficult moments, but as always, the best way to overcome your challenges is to put your shoulder to
the wheel!

My first week in the area was a little slow, but we roared back thispast week having over 10 lessons and finding a
bunch of new people to teach. Earl said he would like to continue with his church until he moves. We will try to get
his new address so we can refer the missionaries to him when he finishes moving. We also met a lady We met her on the 
street on the way to her mail box. She said she was comfortable being Catholic, but then we invited her to learn 
more, to which she responded by saying, "Hmm...What the heck, why not?" We taught her named
Emily who has had a lot of interactions with the LDS church. She is neighbors with our bishop.  the Restoration two days
later, and she even agreed to meet with us again. I'm not sure she is expecting to be baptized, but it was cool that
someone was willing to hear us out!

Week 100: I'm Alive

Hey everyone!

I'm alive!

I survived the first week of the transfer! The best part? Things are surprisingly going better than I anticipated! Obviously, I probably won't find 50 people to baptize in the next couple weeks, but I am so glad that the Lord entrusted me to help build the area slowly and surely. I am also humbled to be able to serve with Elder Mingo and Elder McClure. They are both two very good young men. We were able to go to the temple this past week, and I had a great experience. Over the course of this past week, I have come to love Elder Mingo a lot! Even though we struggled as companions 16 months ago, my plan of attack is to just be his friend. It helps that we are in a trio as well.

We had an amazing experience this past week. We were walking in a neighborhood when we contacted a guy on the other side of the street from us named Earl. Earl is African-American, and just retired from the Airforce. He originally said he wasn't interested, so we left him a card and went on to knock another door. We were walking back by his house on the way to the car when he walked out of his house. I waved to him, and then he, surprisingly, called out to us and asked us to come talk to him. He invited us in and we taught him the Restoration. The coolest part was how humble he was. He said he had thought about our first conversation and pretty much said ,"Why not talk to them?"  And invited us back. It was also his birthday, and the funniest thing

was that he said that when he walked out to look for us he was praying that we would walk by again, and if he couldn't see us, he would have gotten in his car to go look for us. He ended up coming to church on Sunday, and had a good experience! He is so prepared to learn about the Gospel!
